Topeak Air Backpack Review

A Commuter's Solution to Organization

Best Features

The adjustable air chambers made for a comfortable fit and evenly distributed the load against my back. The organization insert in the main section of the bag was one of the best I've seen, and packing and unpacking items like energy bars, a cell phone or wallet was a breeze. This was due in part to the insert section being detachable from the rest of the bag—a feature I have not seen in other products.

Cons

While it must be said that the backpack comes in different sizes, this pack is probably too big for long distances commuters. The back of the pack also doesn't breath very well, so riding for 20 to 30 miles during summer months may not be the best idea.

This backpack is also not for those who enjoy simplicity. With all the organizational features that it has going for it, the bag itself comes with a learning curve. There are so many pockets and so many places to put things that you might find yourself going, "what the heck is this pocket for?" Include that with the air chambers, the bladder, the pump, and all the detaching features, and you'll see that this bag takes a little time to get used to.

Verdict

This is a backpack that is suitable for a variety of uses. If you're looking for an all in one backpack that you can use for commuting, hiking, mountain biking or on a winter ski trip, this backpack might be perfect for you.

If you're a long-distance commuter who's riding more than 15 to 20 miles each way, this bag might be a little too big and get a little too hot to use for that much riding. Overall the quality of the bag is very nice, durable and extremely well organized, making it worth the money.
